AMD has delivered on its promise to enhance its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology, officially releasing FSR 4.1 support for Radeon RX 7000-series graphics cards through its latest Adrenalin drivers. The version 26.2.2 driver set, while light on other new features, prioritizes this significant upgrade, which offers superior AI-powered upscaling and frame generation compared to its predecessor, FSR 3.

This rollout aligns with AMD's May announcement that it would bring its advanced FSR algorithms to RDNA 3 cards in June. For gamers without native FSR 4.1 integration in their titles, the technology can be enabled via an override in the Adrenalin software, provided the game already supports FSR 3.1.

While RDNA 3-based FSR 4.1 is expected to offer performance gains, it is anticipated that future RDNA 4 cards will achieve even greater performance and visual fidelity due to their enhanced matrix operations capabilities. Nevertheless, enabling FSR 4.1 on current RX 7000-series hardware is still expected to provide a noticeable performance boost.

AMD has also indicated that FSR 4.1 support will be extended to the RX 6000-series graphics cards sometime next year. This long-term plan is relevant for many users, as the current market for PC components may lead some to hold onto their RDNA 2 cards for an extended period.

Furthermore, the timing of the RDNA 3 FSR 4.1 release coincides with Valve's integration of the technology into the Steam Machine. While a specific release date has not been confirmed, the company has stated that it is
