Two years after its initial release, the Asus ROG Strix Scope II RX optical gaming keyboard continues to hold its own against newer, more expensive competitors, now available for $80 at Newegg with a 33% discount using promo code FTTF283. Originally retailing for around $120, this keyboard has been a consistent daily driver for its reviewer, outperforming boards priced at more than triple its current sale price.
The keyboard's enduring appeal lies in its exceptional build quality and thoughtful design, featuring pre-lubed components that contribute to a smooth typing and gaming experience. Unlike many manufacturers who add excessive sound-dampening materials and structural reinforcements solely for marketing purposes, the ROG Strix Scope II RX focuses on functional improvements that offer tangible benefits without unnecessary cost inflation. This balanced approach has cemented its status, with the wireless variant previously topping best gaming keyboard lists and its wired sibling maintaining that prestige.
Despite enduring two years of heavy use, including exposure to spills, dirt, and general wear, the keyboard has not experienced a single switch failure. This resilience, combined with its premium feel and performance, has kept it a preferred choice over newer, higher-priced alternatives. The reviewer specifically noted gravitating back to the Strix Scope II RX even after testing other premium options like Corsair's Makr Pro 75.
The ROG Strix Scope II RX's design prioritizes quality components and effective lubrication over superfluous additions. This focus on core performance and durability makes it a standout option, particularly at its current discounted price point. Its ability to withstand rigorous daily use while maintaining its functionality and aesthetic appeal highlights its long-term value in the gaming peripheral market.
