Accessory manufacturer Dbrand has begun taking orders for its Companion Cube case, designed for Valve's unreleased Steam Machine. The case, inspired by the iconic item from Valve's Portal series, is slated to ship in "Late July."
The Companion Cube case features rear and bottom ventilation, with front panels designed for access to the Steam Machine's ports. It also includes a cutout to allow the Steam Machine's LED strip to shine through the front. The magnetic front panel can be easily removed for cleaning the unit's front grill, and the back panel is also removable for port access.
Dbrand is offering the case in two configurations. The "Companion Cube" version is priced at $129.99 and comes in a special edition box that includes a fold-out "test chamber," a "cake-themed suede cloth," a red button base stand, and a Portal-themed Steam Controller skin. The alternative, the "Poverty Cube" version, costs $99.95 and is described as the Companion Cube in a brown cardboard box, with no additional accessories. The "Poverty Cube" is noted to ship "eventually."
Valve's Steam Machine was initially expected in early 2026, but was delayed due to an "AI-fueled RAM crisis" in February. Reports suggest that when the Steam Machine does eventually launch, its price may be higher than initially anticipated, drawing a parallel to the recent price increase for the Steam Deck, which is a less powerful device than the planned Steam Machine.
