Genki, known for its video game accessories, has entered the competitive controller market with the Manta, a gamepad designed for users who desire deep hardware customization and an integrated LCD display. The Manta's Kickstarter campaign has garnered significant attention, surpassing its initial $100,000 funding target to reach over $371,000.

The standout feature of the Manta is its 2.9-inch LCD screen located at the bottom of the controller. This display provides users with the ability to change profiles, inspect input mapping, test inputs, and confirm connections. During gameplay, the screen can also show connection status, polling rate, and battery information, allowing for adjustments on the fly.

Beyond the screen, the Manta controller is packed with advanced technology. It includes "Tristage triggers" for adjustable trigger travel distance, drift-resistant analog sticks utilizing tunneling magnetoresistance, and "maglev haptics" that employ dual linear magnetic ram motors for direct palm feedback. The controller also features "Pulse Buttons" capable of sensing travel without requiring electrical contact. With a 2,600mAh battery and a dedicated button to switch to keyboard-and-mouse mode, the Manta aims for versatility.

Despite its robust hardware, Genki states that the Manta's ergonomics have been carefully shaped for comfort. The controller runs on MantaOS, powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller. This setup allows users to store profiles, tuning settings, connection data, macros, and custom applications directly on the device, positioning it as a comprehensive tool for various gaming genres.

The Manta controller is slated for compatibility with PC, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2. Early-bird pricing on Kickstarter is set at $189, with a planned retail price of $279 post-launch. Genki plans to showcase the Manta controller at upcoming events including Gamescom, PAX West, and the Tokyo Game Show.

Genki is not alone in innovating within the controller space. Valve recently released its Steam Controller, offering a competitive option at $100.
