MSI has introduced a 32-inch, 4K gaming monitor, the MAG 322URDF, priced at $345, which positions itself as an attractive option for budget-conscious gamers seeking a larger 4K display.

While 27-inch 4K gaming monitors have recently garnered attention, often starting around $250 for models capable of triple-digit frame rates, the 32-inch size is argued to be a more optimal fit for 4K resolution. This size maintains good pixel density for sharp visuals while providing a larger, more immersive field of view. Exceeding 32 inches at 4K can lead to a noticeable drop in pixel density, whereas the 32-inch dimension also proves beneficial for general computing tasks, offering ample screen real estate for productivity without compromising image clarity or text rendering.

The MSI MAG 322URDF utilizes an IPS panel, a departure from the VA panels commonly found in similarly priced 32-inch 4K monitors. This IPS technology typically offers better pixel response times, and the MAG 322URDF is rated at a swift 0.5 ms GtG, approaching the best performance currently available from IPS panels. The monitor supports a native 160 Hz refresh rate at 4K and can achieve 320 Hz at 1080p, making it versatile enough for both graphically intensive titles and competitive esports.

At its price point, compromises are present. The monitor features entry-level HDR support with no local dimming. Achieving true HDR performance typically requires OLED panels, which are generally priced above $600. Additionally, the MAG 322URDF omits USB-C connectivity, a feature that would simplify the sharing of the monitor between a gaming PC and a laptop. However, the absence of these features contributes to its aggressive pricing, making it a compelling choice for those prioritizing screen size and resolution over advanced functionalities.
