MSI is celebrating its 40th anniversary with the unveiling of the Titan 18 HX Dragon Edition, a premium gaming laptop with a price tag of $7,000. This limited edition model is equipped with an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU featuring 24GB of GDDR7 memory and an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor. While individual high-end components like the RTX 5090 can be costly, the total price for a laptop configuration raises questions about its intended audience.

The laptop also includes substantial storage and memory, with a large amount of SSD storage and 96GB of DDR5 RAM contributing to its cost. MSI is bundling a free code for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight with direct purchases from the company.

For its display, the Titan 18 HX Dragon Edition features an 18-inch MiniLED screen with a resolution of 3840x2400 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The specifications suggest a powerful machine, though the refresh rate may not meet the expectations of users seeking extremely high-speed displays at this price point.

MSI's 40th-anniversary offering follows a trend of specialized hardware releases from other manufacturers. Asus' ROG sub-brand, for instance, also marked its anniversary with limited-edition products, including a motherboard and memory kits. While these anniversary editions often command premium prices and unique aesthetics, the practicality and target demographic for such high-cost devices remain a subject of discussion.
