Nintendo has outlined its rollout strategy for revised Nintendo Switch 2 products in Europe, which will incorporate user-replaceable batteries. This initiative aligns with European regulations concerning the Right to Repair and battery standards.

The company announced on its official website that selected Nintendo products will gradually be replaced by revised versions containing easily replaceable batteries. These revisions will not alter the existing functionalities of the devices. The rollout is slated to commence this summer, with the initial batch of revised products expected in summer 2026, followed by additional releases in autumn, winter, and early 2027. Nintendo noted that the availability of these revised products may vary across different European countries and retailers due to manufacturing and distribution factors.

Specific changes to battery capacity and weight have been detailed for various products within the Switch 2 family. For instance, the Joy-Con revisions will primarily focus on enabling replaceable batteries without significant functional changes. The Switch 2 console itself will feature a slightly smaller battery, approximately one percent less capacity, and a weight increase of around 10 grams. The Pro Controller is set to receive the most substantial battery reduction, with its replacement being 16 percent smaller.

The revised Joy-Cons are scheduled for release this summer. The Switch 2 console revisions will follow in autumn, the Pro Controller refresh in winter, and the N64 and GameCube controllers are planned for early 2027.

Alongside these revisions, Nintendo has confirmed it will cease production of older Switch hardware. Sales of the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED models to retailers will end in mid-February 2027, approximately a decade after the original Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Direct sales of Nintendo Switch hardware through the official Nintendo Store will also conclude at the same time.
