Pulsar Gaming, in partnership with the High-Performance Human-Computer Interaction Lab at Yonsei University, has launched a research study aimed at informing the design of future gaming mice. The initiative seeks to establish empirical design standards by collecting quantitative user data and analyzing actual behavioral patterns from the global gaming community.
The study involves an academic survey, accessible online, which is open for responses from August 5 to August 24. The survey is approximately 19 pages long and is available in English, Japanese, and Korean. Pulsar Gaming states that the collected responses will form a "foundational baseline for engineering the next generation of gaming mice."
Participants can expect in-depth questions covering various aspects of gaming mouse usage. Initial queries include the types of games played, the number of gaming mice used, and even physical measurements such as finger length. Those who complete the extensive survey will be entered into a draw for a chance to win one of nine randomly selected Pulsar Gaming mice, with winners to be announced on August 26.
This scientific approach to design complements other methods used in the industry. For instance, Logitech has been noted for its dedicated research labs where designers explore concepts like ultra-lightweight mouse constructions and use electrode pads to study how different hand muscles interact with various mouse shapes. Previously, PC Gamer's Jacob highly reviewed the Pulsar X3 CrazyLight Mini gaming mouse, and expressed enthusiasm for the Pulsar Playstore in Tokyo.
