Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, has begun accepting preorders for its first augmented reality (AR) glasses, dubbed SPECS. The glasses are slated to begin shipping in the United States, United Kingdom, and France in the fall of 2026. The preorder price is set at $2,195, with a $200 deposit required to secure a reservation.

SPECS are designed for daily wear and extended use. Constructed from a resilient and lightweight Swiss TR90 thermoplastic, they are available in two sizes: 47mm and 52mm. The smaller size weighs 4.6 ounces, a notable weight considering the integrated advanced optics and personal wearable computer. The glasses utilize transparent waveguide technology to project user interface elements onto the lenses without obscuring the wearer's spatial awareness. They can also produce a full-color immersive display with a 51-degree field of view, comparable to a 115-inch cinema screen viewed from ten feet away. The lenses are electrochromatic, automatically adjusting tint based on ambient light, and are compatible with prescription lenses.

The integrated computer within SPECS is powered by dual Snapdragon processors and runs on Snap OS 2.0. Equipped with onboard infrared and RGB cameras and sensors, the device employs computer vision, contextual awareness, and AI to interpret the user's environment and deliver real-time information and experiences. Leveraging Snap's existing AR ecosystem and Lens platform, SPECS aims to offer a novel way for creators to produce content, professionals to utilize spatial productivity tools, and users to explore an alternative to traditional screen-based computing.

SPECS offers a tetherless experience with an estimated battery life of four hours during mixed use. A included charging case can extend the total usage time to up to 20 hours.
