Sony has announced a delay for its upcoming Pulse Elevate wireless speakers, citing a production issue discovered during ongoing quality testing. The hardware, initially slated to launch this Thursday, will not meet its original release date.

"The additional time will allow us to ensure the product will deliver the experience we intended for our players," reads an update on the official PlayStation blog. "We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience and understanding. We look forward to bringing Pulse Elevate to players soon."

The Pulse Elevate speakers were unveiled last year during a PlayStation State of Play presentation. Designed to complement the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation Portal, the wireless speakers were also compatible with PC, Mac, and mobile devices. They promised to deliver 3D audio for compatible PlayStation titles and featured a built-in microphone with AI-powered noise reduction. Pre-orders opened in September.

This delay comes amidst a challenging holiday season for Sony, which has faced various industry-wide issues including component shortages and rising costs. The company recently introduced an unusual buyback program for its consoles, an effort to manage stock levels. The specific cause of the Pulse Elevate production issue and a new release timeline have not yet been announced.
