Replacement batteries for the original LCD version of Valve's Steam Deck are once again available through iFixIt, but at a substantially higher price. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) batteries, rated for 5200 mAh and 40 Wh, now retail for $130, marking a nearly 63% increase from their previous $80 price point.

This price hike comes despite the Steam Deck LCD being quietly discontinued by Valve late last year. The increase for the OEM battery alone adds $50 to the cost of replacing the power source for the handheld PC. This situation arises during a period of general component price inflation, which may be driving more consumers to repair older hardware.

For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, iFixIt also offers a non-OEM aftermarket battery for the LCD Steam Deck. This alternative, introduced as a temporary solution during the OEM battery shortage, retains the same 5200 mAh and 40 Wh capacity and is priced at $80.

Interestingly, replacement batteries for the newer Steam Deck OLED model are still available for $80. These OLED batteries offer a greater capacity of 6470 mAh and 50.08 Wh, approximately 20% more than the LCD version, yet they cost less than the new OEM LCD batteries. The availability of these updated components at a lower price point further highlights the significant cost increase for the original LCD model's power cells.
