SteelSeries has released its new Aeon Pro wireless gaming controller for PC and Xbox. Priced at $259.99, the controller aims to deliver top-tier build quality and a range of advanced features.

The Aeon Pro is SteelSeries' first pro-grade controller, building on the company's existing lineup which includes the Stratus and Nimbus models. Initial impressions suggest it may be one of the best controllers available for PC and Xbox.

A standout feature is the "infinite battery system," which utilizes a hot-swappable design similar to that found in SteelSeries' Arctis Nova Pro and Omni headsets. The controller comes with two rechargeable batteries; one is used in the controller while the second charges in the included docking station, allowing for continuous wireless play without downtime.

Another key innovation is the patented QuickSwitch system, enabling seamless and instant switching between Xbox, PC, and mobile devices without re-pairing or re-plugging. The controller connects wirelessly to a docking station that serves as a hub, plugged into Xbox and PC via USB Type-C. Mobile connectivity is handled via Bluetooth.

The Aeon Pro incorporates Hall effect sensors for its joysticks, which are designed to be more precise, sensitive, and resistant to stick drift compared to traditional potentiometer-based analog sensors. Additionally, all 16 buttons, including the D-pad, four XYAB face buttons, four trigger buttons, and four rear paddle switches, utilize mechanical switches for a tactile feel. Two of the trigger buttons also offer adjustable travel length, with options for full travel or a hair trigger. Customization of these buttons is available through the controller's OLED display or the Steelseries GG app.

The controller also includes modular thumbsticks, offering four different styles—convex, concave, standard length, and long—that can be easily swapped out. This modularity is a common characteristic of premium controllers.

While the $259.99 price point is significant, SteelSeries positions the Aeon Pro as a worthwhile investment for dedicated gamers who spend hundreds of hours using a controller, citing its comprehensive technology and feature set.
