TCL's 2026 SQD (Super Quantum Dot Mini LED) television range is set to enhance the Australian market with significant performance upgrades, particularly targeting gamers who desire high refresh rates and robust HDR on a large display. The lineup includes the flagship X11L and the more accessible C8L models, both leveraging TCL's proprietary SQD technology.
SQD represents an evolution in display technology, reducing quantum dot size to 5 nanometers from the traditional 60 nanometers. This allows for a finer ultra-color filter layer capable of covering up to 4,000 pixels within each dimming zone. These zones are powered by a new, high-purity single-stream white LED backlight, resulting in a reported 12x improvement in pixel control. This advancement aims to eliminate the color bleed and blooming issues often associated with RGB Mini-LED displays, promising a pure color palette, exceptional brightness, and unprecedented contrast for an LCD panel. These TVs also feature a native 144Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution, designed to minimize motion blur and ghosting without the risk of burn-in, making them suitable for brightly lit rooms.
The 2026 TCL range includes models from the entry-level C6L up to the P7LS, C7L, and P8LS. The premium SQD experience, however, begins with the C8L and the X11L.
The C8L is available in 65, 75, 85, and 98-inch sizes, while the X11L comes in 75, 85, and 98-inch variants. Both premium models share TCL's SQD panel technology and the MediaTek Pentonic 800 processor. Key differences lie in their peak brightness, number of dimming zones, and physical width. For example, the 98-inch C8L offers 4,000 dimming zones and 6,000 nits peak brightness. The 98-inch X11L elevates this with 20,000 dimming zones and up to 10,000 nits of brightness, while also being significantly thinner at 2cm compared to the C8L's 5cm. TCL is positioning these models competitively across various sizes, aiming to make next-generation SQD panels accessible.
For gamers, both the X11L and C8L are equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting modern consoles and PCs. They also feature a dedicated Game Bar for quick access to settings and performance metrics, along with FreeSync Premium Pro Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode support. Dolby Vision Gaming is included to optimize HDR tone-mapping and reduce lag.
A standout feature for PC gamers is the Game Accelerator mode. Utilizing Dual Line Gate technology, this mode can double the native refresh rate to 288Hz by reducing the resolution to 1080p. This allows gamers with PCs capable of outputting high frame rates to experience them on a large TV screen, a significant advantage for competitive play where rapid response is crucial. This capability aims to bridge the gap between high-performance PC gaming monitors and the immersive experience of a big-screen television.
These new TCL televisions aim to provide a comprehensive entertainment solution, combining advanced gaming features with exceptional HDR capabilities that perform well even in bright environments. The C8L and X11L models, in particular, are highlighted for their SQD Mini-LED technology, which TCL suggests offers a superior visual experience.
