Valve has officially opened orders for its Steam Frame wireless VR headset, the final piece of hardware in its new ecosystem, which also includes the Steam Machine and Steam Controller. The headset, first unveiled in November 2025, is now available for reservation. Early reviews suggest the Steam Frame is a smart and flexible VR device, offering significant versatility in how users can play games.
However, the headset's launch pricing has been impacted by ongoing memory shortages and component cost increases, factors that also affected the Steam Machine's price and availability. Initially planned to be more affordable than the Valve Index, the Steam Frame starts at £889 / $1,059 / €1,049 for the 256GB model. The 1TB version is priced at £1,089 / $1,299 / €1,279. Valve also offers several optional accessories that can further increase the total cost.
For instance, a long-cabled USB-C charger is available for £29 / $29 / €39. An Ergonomic Accessories Kit, which includes hand straps similar to those on the Valve Index, costs £59 / $59 / €69. Additionally, an Accessory Replacement Kit, providing spare gaskets and cushions, is priced at £49 / $49 / €59.
Despite the higher-than-expected prices, those interested can reserve a Steam Frame now. Valve is utilizing a randomized reservation system, similar to the one used for the Steam Machine. Customers who sign up between September 14th and September 17th at 6 PM BST / 10 AM PT will be randomly assigned a place in the fulfillment queue. Those who register after this window will be added to a waitlist in chronological order.
The Steam Frame faces a tougher market entry than the Steam Machine, primarily due to its price point. While standalone VR headsets can be acquired for significantly less, the Steam Frame aims to offer a broader range of functionalities. These include playing standard PC games from a Steam library, advanced eye-tracking technology, and the capability to run demanding titles like Half-Life: Alyx without an external PC. The headset is available for reservation on the Steam store.
