Valve has announced pricing and availability details for its Steam Frame VR headset. The device will be offered in two configurations: a 256 GB model priced at $1,059 USD (or equivalent in other currencies) and a 1 TB model costing $1,299 USD.
Reservation Process
Potential buyers can sign up for a reservation between September 14 and September 17 at 10 am Pacific Time via the product page on Steam. Following the close of sign-ups, Valve will conduct a randomized draw to determine who receives a reservation and who is placed on a waitlist. Customers will be notified via email on September 17 regarding their status. Those who sign up after the deadline will be added to the end of the waitlist.
Valve anticipates sending out the first batch of purchase emails on September 18, with subsequent emails to follow as units become available. The company stated that this reservation system, similar to the one used for the Steam Machine, is effective in limiting resellers and improving the purchasing experience.
Additional Accessories
In addition to the headset itself, Valve is offering an Ergonomic Accessories Kit for $49 USD. This kit includes hand straps, an over-the-head strap, and an extended light blocker. A separate power adapter is also available for purchase at $29 USD, though any 45W USB Type-C charger can be used as a substitute.
The reservation system aims to provide the best chance of securing a Steam Frame in the near future for those who register before the September 17 deadline.
