Meccha Chameleon, the breakout hit of 2026, is launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 later today, Nintendo announced during its latest Direct presentation. Until now, the game has been available exclusively on Steam, where it has achieved over 20 million sales in just a few months.
The prop-hunt-style game tasks players with using paint tools to blend into environments to evade a hunter. When a player is discovered, the hunter can tag them with a paint gun, thereby recruiting them to their team.
Meccha Chameleon was released on June 9, 2026, by developers lemorion_1224 and Haganeiro. The game reached a peak of 340,000 concurrent players on Steam. According to Alinea Analytics, Meccha Chameleon had already outsold every other game released in 2026 within its first month, selling 12.6 million copies by early July. Its closest competitors in sales include FC26 with 9.1 million units, Resident Evil Requiem with 7.5 million, Forza Horizon 6 with 7.4 million, Arc Raiders with 7.4 million, and Slay the Spire 2 with 7 million.
Described as a "friendslop" sensation, Meccha Chameleon is designed for multiplayer with friends, a genre that has seen recent successes with titles like How to Fish and Big Walk. While not officially announced, there is potential for Meccha Chameleon to release on PlayStation and Xbox platforms in the future, given its ability to run on a handheld device.
