Danganronpa 2x2 has received a new release date, with the enhanced version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair now scheduled to launch on January 14, 2027. The game was previously slated for a 2026 release.
The Danganronpa series places players in the role of "Ultimates," students who are the best in their respective fields. These students find themselves trapped and are presented with a grim choice: live out their lives together or escape by murdering another student and successfully concealing their crime during a subsequent Class Trial.
Danganronpa 2x2 is a remix of the 2012 title Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, which saw the Ultimates stranded on the tropical Jabberwock Island. This updated version aims to not only enhance the original experience but also introduce new content.
A significant addition is "Slayhem Mode," a new scenario set within the same characters and island environment as the original game. This mode promises a fresh set of trials and challenges. Trailers for the game have teased "Slayhem items," suggesting that a singular event will disrupt the established narrative of Danganronpa 2, leading to a sequence of new events.
Series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, who has since been involved in other projects such as The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, is also contributing to this update, potentially ensuring a familiar quality for fans of the franchise. Danganronpa 2x2 will present its new murder investigations and challenges in early 2027.
