Capcom announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword has surpassed one million units sold across all platforms since its release on September 4. This marks a strong start for the latest installment in the action game series, which has been dormant for over two decades.
The game launched on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Onimusha franchise as a whole has now sold over 10 million copies worldwide throughout its history.
While Capcom has not disclosed platform-specific sales figures, PC appears to be a significant market for the title. On Steam, Onimusha: Way of the Sword recorded a peak of 85,081 concurrent players, according to SteamDB, and has ranked among the platform's best-selling games. This launch success follows Capcom's recent trend of revitalizing its classic franchises. The company previously announced that Pragmata, a new intellectual property, sold one million copies in its first two days. Resident Evil Requiem remains Capcom's biggest seller this year, with over five million units sold in less than a week.
Capcom had previously moved up the release date for Way of the Sword in July, just days after stating it was committed to the original September 25 launch. Early reception has been positive, with Eurogamer's review highlighting the game's deep swordplay mechanics and its departure from common Soulslike design elements.
