Nintendo has announced Pikmin 4: Switch 2 Edition, an enhanced version of its real-time strategy game. The updated release is scheduled to launch on November 12 and will include new content alongside upgraded visuals.

The new edition introduces voice commands for interacting with the companion Oatchi and for issuing movement orders. A new game mode, Dandori Academy, will challenge players to complete treasure hunts against a ticking clock. This mode will focus on high scores, offering three difficulty options and weekly challenges that will occur every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with a total of 72 Dandori Academy stages planned for release over time.

Pikmin 4 originally launched for the Nintendo Switch in July 2023. The game was well-received by critics and players and achieved strong sales, particularly in Japan where its launch sales surpassed the combined total of the series' first three installments. Despite its success, the original release did not receive any post-launch content.

The game follows a team of explorers on an alien planet, aided by the titular Pikmin creatures. Pikmin 4 introduced several key features to the series, including indoor and night-time exploration, and the addition of a dog-like companion named Oatchi, who helps to streamline gameplay. The enhanced edition builds upon these foundations, incorporating elements from Pikmin 2's dungeon-like caves and featuring all major Pikmin species.
