Level-5 has announced a December 10, 2026 release date for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. The game was first revealed in February 2023, and marks the return of the titular Professor Herschel Layton, who had been absent since 2013's Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. His daughter, Katrielle, starred in the most recent entry, 2017's Layton Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy.
The latest installment in the long-running puzzle-adventure series is set to feature the "biggest collection of puzzles in series history," according to a trailer released during today's Nintendo Direct presentation. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 10, 2026.
This release date follows a period of relative quiet for the Professor Layton franchise. While a port of the iOS and Android title Layton Mystery Journey was available on the original Nintendo Switch, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam represents a new mainline entry for the series on current and upcoming platforms.
