Wardogs, an all-out warfare FPS game that has gained significant traction on Steam, is officially slated for release on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in 2028. The game is currently available in early access on Steam for $39.99, a price point the developer intends to raise as the game continues to expand. This pricing strategy aims to reward early supporters with a lower cost compared to the full $60–$70 price of a finished product.
Joe Brammer, CEO at Bulkhead, described the early access period as an opportunity for ambition and iteration. "Wardogs is ambitious, rough around the edges and still has a long way to go, but that is exactly what Early Access should be," Brammer stated. "We’re putting the game in players’ hands, listening to what they tell us and taking the risks needed to turn it into something that can last. More than anything, we want people to get online, talk to each other and have the kind of fun in an FPS that we grew up having."
The 2028 console release target suggests a full 1.0 launch, as PlayStation has historically been more restrictive with early access titles compared to Xbox. While exceptions have been made for major games, it is currently uncertain if Wardogs will be among them.
Bulkhead's specific mention of a PlayStation 5 release is noteworthy given speculation about the PlayStation 6's potential launch next year. It remains to be seen whether Wardogs will receive a native PS6 version or rely on backward compatibility.
Wardogs emerged over the summer and quickly garnered attention, with player responses from playtests indicating its potential as a major contender in the shooter genre.
