Preorders for the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition are now live at retailers including Walmart, Best Buy, and the Microsoft Store. This new controller features a striking translucent green design, with several elements intended to evoke the original Xbox console. It is priced at $79.99 and is scheduled for release on October 20.
The controller's aesthetic includes a green glow for the central Xbox button, a detail Microsoft states references "the first green X bursting through" in the console's startup sequence. The back of the controller sports the original Xbox logo on its battery cover. White and black buttons on the left and right bumpers, respectively, recall the extra face buttons found on the original Xbox, while the face buttons themselves are colored green, red, yellow, and blue, mirroring the original controller's layout.
Beyond its retro design, the X25 Special Edition incorporates contemporary controller functionalities. The triggers and bumpers are textured to enhance grip and prevent slippage. It also includes standard modern Xbox controller features such as wireless connectivity and broad compatibility with Windows, Mac, and mobile devices.
This announcement comes as Microsoft unveils other news during Gamescom, including plans to allow Xbox Insiders to digitize their physical games starting next week.
