Pre-orders for the special-edition Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console have largely sold out across major retailers. The hardware, set to release on October 29, 2026, carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $519.99, an increase of $20 over the base model. As of this writing, Nintendo, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy do not have the console in stock.

Some listings on these retail sites may appear to offer the console, but these are often from third-party sellers. Buyers are advised to exercise caution and check seller ratings and descriptions carefully to avoid potential scams, such as purchasing only the console's box. Prices from these third-party vendors can also be significantly higher than the MSRP.

Scalpers are reportedly preparing to purchase available stock using automated bots, aiming to resell the consoles at inflated prices. The aftermarket on eBay shows listings for the 40th anniversary console around $850, over $300 more than the suggested retail price. While this offers an immediate option for those unwilling to wait for restocks, buyers should still verify the legitimacy of the seller and the secured pre-order.

Demand for Zelda-themed accessories has also outstripped supply. Nintendo has sold out of its Pro Controller and carrying case. Walmart has sold out of the Pro Controller but still has the carrying case available for pre-order. Target has sold out of the Pro Controller but retains stock of the carrying case. Amazon's listings for both the Pro Controller and carrying case are currently unavailable, and Best Buy lists the Pro Controller as coming soon while offering the carrying case.

Despite the scarcity of the hardware and accessories, the physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, featuring a special foil cover, is still available for purchase from Nintendo's website for $69.99. However, availability at other major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, and Target for this special edition of the game is subject to change, with some already experiencing sell-outs.
