Channing Tatum has offered a glimpse of his updated Gambit accent in a new promotional ad for Avengers: Doomsday, which also features a crossover with Dunkin' Donuts. Tatum's portrayal of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine featured a pronounced Cajun accent, a choice that suited the film's comedic tone. However, for Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to adopt a more serious narrative, the accent appears to have been refined.
The new Dunkin' Donuts ad pairs Tatum's Gambit with Herbie from the Fantastic Four, providing audiences with an opportunity to hear a more subdued version of the character's voice. A comparison of his accent in both appearances has been shared online.
Tatum had previously indicated his intention to moderate the Cajun dialect for Doomsday, stating his desire for the character to be taken seriously. He remarked that the directors aimed for humor but not at the expense of dramatic weight, noting that "When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter."
Gambit's exact role in Avengers: Doomsday remains uncertain. While his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine was brief, his reception by fans has seemingly paved the way for his return. Tatum was originally attached to star in a solo Gambit film in the 2010s, a project that ultimately did not materialize before he was invited to portray the character in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Given the younger cast members expected in the new X-Men film, such as Inde Navarette as Rogue (who is 25), a significantly older Gambit might not be a central figure. However, the possibility of varied character dynamics remains open.
