The ambitious first-person shooter Selaco is set to receive a substantial update that will nearly double its content and introduce a host of new features. Dubbed "The Machines of War," this update will add the second of three planned chapters to the game, significantly expanding its scope.

Selaco, which launched into Steam early access in 2024, is built on the Doom engine and draws inspiration from titles like F.E.A.R., Half-Life, and System Shock. The game places players in the role of a mercenary battling an invasion within a colossal space station that serves as humanity's last refuge.

The "Machines of War" update introduces 19 new campaign maps, promising an additional 6-8 hours of gameplay. This new chapter will further the narrative, provide a voice for the protagonist, and introduce a persistent, relentless enemy referred to as "an unstoppable machine" that actively hunts the player. Players can expect new weaponry, including a minigun and a unique heavy machine gun capable of firing explosions. Additionally, the update will feature deployable weapons such as mini-turrets and sentinel drones, along with a "heavy ordnance system" for wielding large, disposable weapons found on the battlefield, reminiscent of Gears of War.

Beyond new content, Altered Orbit Studios has entirely rewritten the game's F.E.A.R.-inspired enemy AI. This overhaul aims to improve enemy tactics and decision-making, introducing a new "rally" system and more dynamic patrolling behavior when enemies are not in combat. The studio has also revamped the entire first chapter, adding improved set pieces and new surprises for players returning to the game.

Further enhancements in the update include a new lighting system, an upgraded particle system for more spectacular combat effects, improved navigation through the station's complex environments, more lifelike enemy communication with new voice lines, refined controls, and new music. The developer acknowledges that due to the extensive changes, old save files will not be compatible. However, players will have the option to begin directly with Chapter 2 if they prefer not to replay the reworked first episode.

Selaco: The Machines of War is scheduled for release on November 13.
