Despite its age and status as a PlayStation 4 exclusive without a native next-gen upgrade, FromSoftware's Bloodborne continues to demonstrate remarkable sales performance, with reports indicating it sells hundreds of thousands of copies each year.

According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, the game has sold over 251,000 copies in the current year alone. Analyst Rhys Elliott noted on social media that Bloodborne has reached an estimated 10.4 million total sales since its March 2015 launch, generating approximately $317 million in revenue. Furthermore, in October, an estimated half a million players engaged with Bloodborne through Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Data suggests a significant overlap between Bloodborne players and those who also play other FromSoftware titles. Of the nearly 500,000 players who accessed Bloodborne via PS Plus in October, 12% also played Elden Ring, 6% played Dark Souls 3, and 5% played Sekiro. Elliott observed that a consistent group of gamers moves between different FromSoftware titles, particularly when Bloodborne is involved.

Fans have long expressed a desire for a Bloodborne remaster or a native PlayStation 5 version, as the game remains locked at 30fps and is officially unavailable on current-generation consoles beyond backward compatibility. While modders have found ways to achieve higher frame rates and resolutions on PS5, an official upgrade has not materialized.

Reports have surfaced that the now-closed Bluepoint Games, known for its work on the Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, pitched a Bloodborne remake. However, it was reportedly FromSoftware itself, rather than Sony, that turned down the proposal. FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki has previously stated that a Bloodborne remake is not within his purview, as the intellectual property is not owned by his studio, though he acknowledged the game would benefit from modern hardware. PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida has speculated that Miyazaki's personal affection for Bloodborne might be a reason for its lack of an official update or remake, suggesting that Miyazaki may not want others to work on the title while he is too busy.

In terms of related media, Sony announced an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie earlier this year, with YouTuber JackSepticEye attached as a producer. FromSoftware, meanwhile, is preparing for the release of The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, and has recently released Elden Ring: Nightreign. Miyazaki has reassured fans that the developer remains committed to single-player experiences and has indicated that Elden Ring 2 is not currently under consideration, though the possibility for the future has not been entirely dismissed. An Elden Ring movie is also in development.
