Nikita Buyanov, the game director behind the hardcore extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov, has revealed his studio's next project: Fragmentary Order. This upcoming sci-fi tactical shooter was showcased with 14 minutes of in-engine gameplay footage, demonstrating a game that aims to evolve the extraction shooter genre.
Set in 2251 across the Solar System, Fragmentary Order places players in control of remotely operated clones, known as RepEnts, rather than their own characters. This core mechanic frames death as a mere business expense, though tactical precision and survival remain paramount. The game will feature large-scale environments, dynamic weather conditions, vehicular combat, drone deployment, and advanced weaponry.
Players can form squads of up to four, emphasizing coordinated planning and execution for success. The gameplay footage provided a glimpse into core mechanics familiar to fans of Escape from Tarkov, including looting, inventory management, weapon customization, and intense firefights, albeit in a futuristic setting.
Buyanov expressed ambitious goals for Fragmentary Order, stating, "We're not building a match you play. We're building a world you live in, for years." He hopes the game will maintain player engagement for a decade, similar to Escape from Tarkov.
In addition to the gameplay reveal, Buyanov announced Prime Batch, a paid program offering early access to the game's development. Two tiers are available: Candidate for $44.99, including alpha access and exclusive in-game items, and Founder for $79.99, which adds earlier access to experimental builds, roadmap visibility, and direct developer communication.
The first closed alpha testing phase is slated for later this year under a non-disclosure agreement. A full release date for Fragmentary Order has not yet been announced.
