Nightdive Studios has revealed the first trailer for Thief: The Tarnished Mirror, an official expansion set to launch alongside the upcoming Thief Remaster. The expansion is being developed by the team responsible for The Black Parade, a highly regarded 2023 mod for the original Thief.
The Tarnished Mirror will feature four new missions and is intended to serve as a narrative link between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age. Similar to The Black Parade, these new levels will utilize technological advancements to present more expansive and ambitious environments than what was feasible on PCs in the 1990s.
The trailer showcases environments that are characteristic of the Thief series, with The Tarnished Mirror introducing increased verticality and more intricate interior designs that build upon familiar Thief assets. The expansion also aims to explore the series' elements of horror, a facet of the franchise that the Black Parade mod team significantly emphasized, leading to particularly frightening experiences according to reports.
This announcement offers a significant development for fans of the classic stealth series, especially following the news that the remaster's collector's edition will not be available for PC. The Thief Remaster is shaping up to be a substantial release for enthusiasts of the franchise.
