Phison has unveiled the E37T PCIe Gen5 memory controller at CES 2026, signaling a push toward faster, cooler, and potentially less pricey PCIe 5.0 SSDs as memory pricing remains volatile. The E37T is pitched as a substantial upgrade over the E31T, which powers the Crucial P510 NVMe SSD—the current budget-friendly PCIe 5.0 option for gaming. Phison’s briefings emphasized an active power efficiency target of under 2.3 watts, while the DRAM-less, four-channel design is intended to curb power draw and thermals, making it well-suited for upcoming thin laptops and mobile gaming setups that rely on compact form factors.
Power and thermal management are central to the E37T’s appeal. Phison says the controller’s low-power profile could reduce the need for bulky heat sinks on Gen5 drives, while the DRAM-less four-channel arrangement is pitched to deliver steadier thermals and more predictable power use. The company notes the E37T will drive Phison’s own E28 flagship PCIe Gen5 x4 NVMe drive and is expected to appear in SSDs from Corsair and Silicon Power.
Beyond client SSDs, Phison indicates the E37T will also support data-center products, including the Pascari X201 and D201 enterprise drives geared toward data centres.
Release and pricing information remains thin on the ground, but the CES disclosure suggests Gen5 upgrades could deliver improved performance with lower thermal penalties and potentially reduced costs if memory pricing stabilizes.
