Sony Santa Monica has announced that the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, God of War Laufey, has been delayed from its previously slated February 2027 release to May 20th, 2027. The studio stated that the additional time will be used to "put in the finishing touches and push the game to its fullest potential."
In a social media post, the developer expressed gratitude for the excitement surrounding Faye's journey through the Everywhen and acknowledged the trust placed in them to deliver an extraordinary experience. "We will make the most of each moment until then," the statement read. The studio also appreciated the patience of its fans and promised further updates.
This delay strategically moves God of War Laufey out of a busy February, which already includes highly anticipated titles such as the Fable reboot and Persona 4 Revival. The new release date offers more breathing room for players managing their game backlogs.
God of War Laufey marks a departure for the series, placing Faye in the lead role. The game explores an afterlife dimension populated by deities from various mythologies and is set to reintroduce the faster combat mechanics from the original God of War games. While Kratos will not be the primary protagonist, he will make appearances in Laufey and is confirmed to return in future installments, with those future games set to connect directly to the events of Laufey.
